Every home has its own soul, and it’s often the smallest details that reveal its true character and project an unforgettable personality. These are the jewels of the home—those thoughtfully chosen elements that quietly elevate a specific room or connect multiple spaces into a coherent theme.
Handcrafted tiles become miniature works of art, adding texture and color where you least expect it. Unique drawer pulls and cabinet hardware offer a touch of character, turning everyday interactions into moments of delight. Persian rugs ground a space with history, warmth, and intricate beauty, while custom wood floors showcase craftsmanship that can’t be replicated. Together, these pieces tell a story of individuality, transforming a living space into something deeply personal, layered, and memorable.
At this year’s WestEdge Design Fair, we sought out the most inspiring examples of what we call “Jewels for the Home”, elements that allow a homeowner to tell their own story and to impart unique personality and meaning to their interior and exterior spaces.

John Ahmad Rugs
A 100-Year Old Family Legacy
John Ahmad Rugs is a Los Angeles–based atelier with a century-long family legacy in rug collecting and curation. Their pieces are deeply rooted in heritage—combining traditional hand-weaving techniques with rare, artful designs drawn from Persian, Afghan, Moroccan, and Art Deco sources.

What makes a John Ahmad rug special is its ability to transform a room into something more than just functional: each one tells a story. The craftsmanship and material quality (e.g., 100% handwoven wool) bring warmth, texture, and a sense of history to a space.
Displaying a seat fit for a king, with a Persian Bakhshaish as the backdrop, John Ahmad created the most Instagrammable backdrop of any booth at the show. Demonstrating that whether placed in a living room, bedroom, or gallery-like corner, these rugs elevate the environment by grounding timeless artisanal tradition.
In short, a John Ahmad rug doesn’t just cover the floor—it enriches the space, giving it personality, legacy, and a refined, but soulful touch.
Amir John Azizi—a proud fourth-generation rug and art collector and head of John Ahmad Rugs—shares with Purgula the fascinating backstory of the gorgeous Persian rug he prominently displayed in his booth at WestEdge 2025 in the video below:

Modern Matter
Jewelry for Your Home
Modern Matter began not in a metal shop, but in a jewelry atelier—and that origin still defines everything they do.

They take the kind of craftsmanship, detail, and refinement you’d expect in fine jewelry, and apply it to home hardware: knobs, pulls, latches, and decorative fittings. Built from solid brass and frequently accented with semi-precious gemstones, leather, rattan, or Lucite, their pieces are thoughtfully designed to turn everyday touchpoints into personal statements.
What might feel like a small detail—a drawer pull or a cabinet knob—becomes an intentional design moment, as expressive as an earring or brooch. Their philosophy centers on elevating the ordinary: Modern Matter believes luxury lives in the details where artistry meets function.
The brand works with respected interior designers to develop collections that strike a balance between graceful form and everyday utility—think gemstone knobs paired with custom back plates, or bold appliance pulls crafted with Lucite and brass.
Modern Matter transforms what would normally be the invisible—your hardware—into visible, memorable accents. Their pieces don’t just finish a room, they define it.
Lee Woodard, co-founder of Modern Matter Hardware, shares the company’s intriguing history of pivoting from jewelry to the “jewelry of the home” from their glimmering booth at WestEdge Design Fair 2025 in the video below:
Patrick Cain Designs
Sculptural Artistry for the Home
Patrick Cain Designs (PCD), rooted in the creative heart of Los Angeles, offers more than furniture—the design firm crafts understated statement pieces that bring artistry to everyday spaces. Their cast concrete collection, part of the PCD Home line, includes a thoughtful range of trinket dishes, centerpiece bowls, and platters that look and feel like functional sculptures.

Each piece is handcrafted with care and finished with a commercial-grade, food-safe sealant, making them as practical as they are beautiful. Their Kismet Trinket Dish, for instance, provides a minimalist sanctuary for rings or small keepsakes, while the Dune Trinket Dish and Reef Trinket Dish bring organic shapes and soft color tones that echo natural landscapes.
On a larger scale, bowls and platters like the Utopia Bowl and Aves Platter anchor a room with their sculptural form—the Cantilever Centerpiece Bowl is especially dramatic, with its elegant asymmetry making it a refined focal point. These elements not only serve a practical purpose—holding fruit, keys, or even candles—but also elevate the overall aesthetic, imparting a sense of permanence and craftsmanship.
What makes Patrick Cain Designs especially noteworthy in interior design is their seamless blend of function and artistry: these pieces are more than accessories—they’re quiet statements that balance beauty and utility, helping to infuse everyday living spaces with a sense of thoughtful design.
Pennoyer Newman
Living History Sculpted into Home Accents
Pennoyer Newman specializes in cast replicas of historic garden and architectural artifacts, preserving the design legacy of some of the grandest estates in history. Their collection comprises over 500 handcrafted pieces made from a proprietary mix of pummeled marble, rock, and resin—durable yet surprisingly lightweight, and designed to age gracefully with moss and lichen.

Co-founded by Cecily Pennoyer and Virginia Newman, the company draws directly on Cecily’s family connection to J.P. Morgan—the grandfather of her husband. Many of their molds come from original estate pieces once belonging to Morgan and other prominent collectors and peers, such as Daniel Guggenheim and Clay Frick.
Their mission is more than replication—it’s preservation: to “purvey, protect and preserve” the design heritage of these historically significant forms.

What makes Pennoyer Newman especially compelling for elevated interiors and exteriors is the way their architectural planters, urns, finials, and other sculptural elements become personal design statements. A modern rooftop terrace or a formal living room doesn’t just get a piece of furniture—it inherits a fragment of history, reinterpreted through craft and contemporary materials.
Each piece is made to order in New York City, and can be customized in size and color—meaning you’re not just buying a planter, but a curated artifact specially tailored to your space.

Plank Hardwoods
Crafting Wood as Personal Architecture
Plank Hardwoods, based in Agoura Hills, CA, is more than a flooring supplier—they’re a full-service design showroom specializing in hardwood flooring, wall-and-ceiling cladding, decking, bespoke furniture, and installation.

Plank Hardwoods’ bespoke dining table and leather stools featured at WestEdge Design Fair 2025
What makes them particularly compelling in a discussion of “elevated but unusual” home details is their mastery of cladding—precision-milled, engineer-stabilized solid wood panels that bring the warmth and depth of real wood to interior and exterior surfaces.
Whether in a living room accent wall, ceiling detail, or outdoor deck, their planks are crafted to be design statements, not just functional finishes. Through their “Curated Experience,” Plank Hardwoods works closely with homeowners, designers, and architects to turn a vision into a bespoke reality.
Every board is not just selected—it’s part of a broader narrative about space, material, and craft.
Plank’s approach elevates wood from a backdrop to a centerpiece: instead of walking on plain floors, you immerse yourself in surfaces that feel alive—every grain, color, and texture reflecting a considered and personal design choice.
We were especially drawn to the statement dining table exhibited at Plank Hardwoods’ exhibit booth at WestEdge. The natural beauty of the expansive piece was noteworthy was further enhanced by the choice of NOT adding synthetic epoxy to the natural gaps and crevices of the wood planks. A truly bold biophilic design choice!

Star Tile
Sculptural Healing Through Ceramics
Star Tile is a luxury, woman-owned studio based in Yucca Valley, California—just outside of Joshua National Forrest—that specializes in handcrafted, nature-inspired 3D tile.

Andrea Keller, co-founder of Star Tile, proudly showcasing her calming tiles in her booth at WestEdge 2025
Their mission is more than decorative—they design with neuroaesthetic purpose, using forms drawn from nature and sacred fractal geometry to foster a deeper sense of calm, connection, and well-being.
Each tile is made to order by skilled artisans using mineral-based glazes, so no two pieces are exactly alike—variations in color, texture, and shape are part of the beauty.

A small sample of the many styles showcased by Star Tile at WestEdge 2025
Their slow-crafted approach rejects mass production, resulting in tiles that feel more like intimate artistic puzzle pieces than ordinary building materials.
These tiles are designed to command attention in feature installations—think dramatic accent walls in boutique hotels or spas, bespoke murals in high-end homes, or sculptural fireplace surrounds.
By elevating surfaces into sensory, dimensional landscapes, Star Tile turns the ordinary—a wall or backsplash—into a deeply personal statement, a reflection of nature, art, and human intuition.
Andrea Keller, co-founder of Star Tile, shares her knowledge and passion for the soothing impact of fractal design and the science of beauty with Purgula at their WestEdge 2025 booth in the video below:
