Indian Street Food Three Ways with Chetna Makan
Join this Milk Street livestream cooking class, with guest teacher Chetna Makan, to learn how to make three beloved Indian snacks entirely from scratch:
- Bite-sized paneer cheese coated in crispy breading
- Shatteringly crisp chips spiked with chili powder
- Fritters packed with summer vegetables and a DIY spice blend
These are the beloved snacks that are found across India — and that should be found in your home kitchen, too!
You’ll learn directly from Chetna, a crowd favorite on the Great British Baking Show and the recent author of “Easy Indian Vegetarian”, in a livestream class where you’ll learn how to replace humdrum snacks with great ones.
You’ll never make bland mozzarella sticks again once you’ve tasted Chetna’s fried paneer cheese coated in a fragrant and perfectly crunchy layer of sesame seeds and chaat masala.
Instead of tortilla or potato chips, make your own batch of paras, a chip made with a well-spiced homemade pastry dough and rapidly cooked on the stovetop.
Tater tots will get dethroned by corn fritters, where the sweetness of corn — either fresh or frozen — marries perfectly with the four-ingredient spice blend that Chetna will teach you to make yourself.
During the class you’ll also learn about regional variations of each of these snacks, get Chetna’s ideas on how to incorporate each of them into full meals and hear all the ways Chetna loves to use chutney.
Length of Class: 1 hour 15 minutes
What’s on the Menu:
- Till Paneer (Sesame Seed Paneer Fingers)
- Namak Para (Spiced-Up Crispy Pastry)
- Makai (Corn) Cutlets
